The Walled Garden

A garden locked is my sister, my bride,

a spring locked, a fountain sealed.

Song of Songs, Ch. 4, vs. 12

Most of you are familiar with Song of Songs chapter 4, where Solomon extols the beauty and virtues of his Bride at great length. But hidden in there somewhere is a single line about how her heart is locked up, only opening up to someone by the Grace of God.

And somehow unbeknownst to me, it had previously turned into a pastel drawing. Funny how God works sometimes, isn’t it?

Headshots – Disney Princess Bethany

Every year, hundreds if not more try apply to the various Disney properties around the world for their chance to get hired as a cast member, or even better – as Disney Prince or Princess.

One of those is my friend Bethany, who has dreamed and continues to dream about the chance to become a Disney princess… being able to provide some of that Disney magic to people visiting the park.

A few months ago, she asked if I could photograph some basic head shots for her, as part of her application to become a Princess at Disney.

Lightning Photography

Lightning photography has always interested me — Lightning is both awe-inspiring to watch and scary to be in. You get to witness the raw power of mother nature in the middle of a storm.

Unfortunately, being out in a storm, particularly on a tall structure with a metal tripod is generally a bad idea.

Recently we had a storm pass through Austin with very little precipitation and the most fantastic lightning show. As I watched, the storm rolled on past me — the perfect opportunity to capture some good photographs without many of the risks.

And that’s how I found myself on top of a 9-story parking garage, camera aimed at the tail-end of the storm, getting some great photographs.
