Anniversary Photos – The Megatrons

A few months ago, my friends (known as the Megatrons) asked me to come and photograph a party they were hosting on their one year anniversary to thank their friends who came together and helped make their wedding a success.

It was a wonderful morning, just the right weather for a lazy Saturday morning brunch with friends, good food and mimosas. The company was merry, many laughs were had and some good stories were told about that fateful (but joyous) day last year.

A few weeks later, they asked if we could go out and capture some anniversary photos. We went to the location of their engagement party (and secret wedding, gasp!), and the Hope Outdoor Gallery:

Laity Lodge 2014 – Artist Retreat Photography

For the last two years, I have gone on a most fantastic Artist Retreat to Laity Lodge.

It has been a great time of rest, renewal and fellowship with many artists, both from Texas and all around the US.

There are artists from all genres of art – musicians, visual artists, writers, spoken word, actors and actresses, sculpture, mixed media… the list goes on. It’s always a great time, and I come back feeling greatly refreshed and inspired to make more art, to be able to create more storytelling photography.

This year, I was able to present some of my photography, from an older project that is still unfinished. It’s a project about telling the stories of people’s broken childhoods.

I also took copious amounts of photographs at the retreat — enjoy them!

The Walled Garden

A garden locked is my sister, my bride,

a spring locked, a fountain sealed.

Song of Songs, Ch. 4, vs. 12

Most of you are familiar with Song of Songs chapter 4, where Solomon extols the beauty and virtues of his Bride at great length. But hidden in there somewhere is a single line about how her heart is locked up, only opening up to someone by the Grace of God.

And somehow unbeknownst to me, it had previously turned into a pastel drawing. Funny how God works sometimes, isn’t it?

Headshots – Disney Princess Bethany

Every year, hundreds if not more try apply to the various Disney properties around the world for their chance to get hired as a cast member, or even better – as Disney Prince or Princess.

One of those is my friend Bethany, who has dreamed and continues to dream about the chance to become a Disney princess… being able to provide some of that Disney magic to people visiting the park.

A few months ago, she asked if I could photograph some basic head shots for her, as part of her application to become a Princess at Disney.

Lightning Photography

Lightning photography has always interested me — Lightning is both awe-inspiring to watch and scary to be in. You get to witness the raw power of mother nature in the middle of a storm.

Unfortunately, being out in a storm, particularly on a tall structure with a metal tripod is generally a bad idea.

Recently we had a storm pass through Austin with very little precipitation and the most fantastic lightning show. As I watched, the storm rolled on past me — the perfect opportunity to capture some good photographs without many of the risks.

And that’s how I found myself on top of a 9-story parking garage, camera aimed at the tail-end of the storm, getting some great photographs.
