Love is…

Last Thursday was Maundy Thursday, and I listened to a very moving sermon on Love. And as I was about to turn the page to continue my notes, I came across a leaf, randomly stuck in my journal.

Love is....

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.

Being behind bars and taking risks.

Behind Bars

I’m on a mailing list along with a bunch of other artists – and someone sent out a simple email to everybody on the list:

… will be praying tomorrow afternoon for you. Do you have a prayer request?

And now for my response:

I … ask for prayers to be productive – I’m taking the proverbial leap of faith in trying to pursue my passion as career (yay, another photographer!), and haven’t been as productive these last few weeks as I would have liked to. Maybe it’s a time to rest, but it’s felt a lot like I’ve wasted more time than rested… or having gotten anything done.

Also, I want to take more risks. For God’s Kingdom. For love. For life. For years I was locked up in a prison of my own making – Christ set me free many years ago, but I’ve spent far too much time afraid to walk out the open door.

To this effect, I’m working on discipline. Making photographs every day, and not being afraid of trying to capture a moment that might be awkward. Or of being rejected. I’ve also been reading (and inspired) by – a blog where the author documents one thousand risks he’s done for the Kingdom.

So ask me how it’s going, how I’m doing – I need people to hold me accountable.

I love you all, and thank you for listening.
