Beautiful like your Father

“You look just like your Father,” he said.

An uneasy chuckle came off my lips.

“I wouldn’t know. But thanks?” I responded.

How could this gentleman whom I had never met before, know what my father looked like… and whether I looked like him or not? And being adopted, I don’t even know what he looks like.

“He means your Heavenly Father.” my friend pointed out. She had watched the exchange from across the room.

Oh. Headscratch. Well, I guess. Yeah, I was made that way.

If you look at the story of creation, you’ll find Genesis 1:26-30:

26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so.

Then in verse 31, it follows:

God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.

Then, in Psalm 139, King David says the following:

13For You formed my inward parts;

You wove me in my mother’s womb.

14I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Wonderful are Your works,

And my soul knows it very well.

15My frame was not hidden from You,

When I was made in secret,

And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;

16Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;

And in Your book were all written

The days that were ordained for me,

When as yet there was not one of them.

God knew you before He made you. He made you in His image. You are wonderfully made, and it is very good.

You look just like your Father, and you are Beautiful.
